Bread Maker v.s Active Dried Yeast...What's the Difference?
Our Tasti Breadmaker Yeast includes yeast and improver, which means that you can add it on the first step of mixing the dry ingredients and guarantee an even distribution throughout your bread dough.
If you have purchased Tasti Breadmaker Yeast, you'll notice that it has a compound of 45% active dry yeast and the remainder of the ingredients are emulsifiers and enzymes, while Tasti Active Dry Yeast has a compound of 100% active dry yeast.
Tasti Breadmaker Yeast is best used in bread-making machines. The granules of yeast are smaller and when mixed with improvers, help with the rising process. Because of the improvers, the yeast in this product is less concentrated so you will need to use twice as much as you would of the Tasti Active Dried Yeast. We would recommend about 1 tsp of Tasti Breadmaker Yeast per cup of flour.
Tasti Top Tip! Add the water at around 24 – 26°C to achieve the best dough rise!
Tasti Active Dried Yeast is a 100% compound of active dry yeast which works much better when you make a quick hydration in water before adding to the flour. In suitable temperatures, it will help release the carbon dioxide (CO2) which brings volume and taste results.
Tasti Active Dried Yeast works best for handmade bread and needs to be “proved” prior to adding it to the rest of your ingredients. Proving is the process of kick-starting the yeast and getting it to grow and multiply. The best way to proof your yeast is to mix it with warm water and 1 tsp of sugar. Leave it in a warm, draft-free place for 10-15 minutes until a foam forms on the surface of the liquid. This foam shows you that the yeast is working as expected and is ready to be added in with your remaining ingredients.
Tasti Top Tip! Active Dried Yeast is also useful in home brewing!
